Garage 2 Gym

At the end of PE class in 90°F/32°C heat, our students have to run to the nearest shower which is 2 football fields, 2 hills and 40 steps away. By the time they get there, there’s very little time to shower before they have to run back up a different hill to make it to the next class. Mr. Cone, the PE teacher, must also supervise this migration 3-4 times a day.

Imagine a parent of small children, attending an event in the RFIS gym when their child suddenly and urgently needs to go to the restroom. Realizing there are no restrooms at the gym, they quickly ask someone where the nearest restroom is and then run up the hill and into the student locker area just in time. On the way back they pass high school students busily carrying plates of food up and down the hill from the domestic arts room, since there is no kitchen in the gym where they are holding the event.

RFIS has recently been blessed with a covered gym, which has been well used for PE classes, sporting events, and many other school functions, but it remains incomplete. The old locker rooms near the garage are now well removed from both PE activities and classrooms, thus creating tardiness and supervision issues. Additionally, there are no immediately available restrooms in the new gym, creating security and child safety issues during public events. 

Enhance operational resiliency and increase program efficiencies by completing the new gym.

Specifications: Build 2 new locker rooms, public restrooms and Caterer's Kitchen in the new gym.

Benefits of Completing the Gym:

1. Larger locker rooms — with more showers allowing students to shower more efficiently after class.

2. Close proximity of locker rooms - allowing students to shower and get to class in a timelier manner and visiting teams to have access to a locker room

3. Separate Public restrooms – increasing security by eliminating the need for guests to share the locker rooms with teams or enter the classroom/locker areas

4. A kitchen- removing the need to haul food across the campus during games or community events

5. An all-inclusive covered facility – increasing the potential for revenue from rentals
