No, you do not need a referral. However, if a third party will be funding (partially or in full) then you will need a referral prior to attending the first appointment.
For example, a Mental Health Care Plan from a GP would normally have a referral letter attached. If you are attending via Workcover, you will need to provide a letter or referral indicating that the insurer will be funding the session/s.
The cost for a 50 minute initial and standard appointment is $130 regardless of the time or day.
If you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP with referral letter, then sessions will be bulk billed, provided that you have not exhausted your Medicare 'focused psychological sessions' at another practice.
Clients receiving support via NDIS, Workcover, DVA, CTP or other funding models will not be charged directly. The applicable fees will be charged to your plan, insurer or service provider.
Fees for reports and letters are on a per hour basis, charged at the rate of an initial and standard appointment.
Note that fee increases may occur and would generally happen at the end of financial year (30th of June). You will be provided with adequate notice if this is applicable to you.
Yes! If you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan and referral letter from your GP.
Currently Medicare allows up to 10 focused psychological sessions per year. If these are used up then the full rate of $130 applies. Your psychologist will plan session frequency with you to ensure you have an optimal treatment schedule that considers your mental health and budget.
Mental Health Care Plans are prepared by your GP to manage your treatment of a diagnosed mental health condition that you maybe experiencing.
To find out if you are eligible you will need to book a long appointment with your GP who will then conduct their assessment to determine if a Mental Health Care Plan is needed.
If you attend with a valid Mental Health Care Plan referral letter, then you are eligible bulk-billing.
Before attending the initial appointment, you will be asked to complete some intake forms covering consent, telehealth agreement, personal informaiton and provision of information form. You will also be provided with a link to attend via telehealth. It is a very simple setup that does not require you to download any apps.
At the initial appointment, you can expect to undertake some questionnaires and a discussion around the problems you are experiencing. From this a treatment plan will be developed with you and further appointments would be scheduled if required.
If you are unable to attend you must provide 24 hours notice. or a $40 cancellation fee will be applied. This fee would be waived if the appointment can be filled.
For those attending under NDIS, Workcover, CTP, DVA and other funding models, you're plan or insurer will be charged at the applicable rate.
