To the Moon & Beyond

For All humankind

The Soviets sent the first person into space on April 12, 1961. President John F. Kennedy challenged our nation “to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to earth.” It took eight years and three NASA programs - Mercury, Gemini and Apollo – to get the United States to The Moon. The Space Launch System (the Shuttle Program) has built upon all that we learned to get to the Moon and enabled us to continue to live and work in space today.
