The Concorde actually had the slowest average speed of 1,300.6 mph for our four airplanes, but it is also the only plane able to make it the full distance without refueling!
The Concorde was designed through collaboration between Great Britain and France with a desire to develop supersonic transport. British Aircraft Corporation and Sud Aviation, later reorganized as Aerospatiale, developed an aircraft featuring an ogival delta wing. The Concorde had four massive turbojet engines. The Concorde carried 100 passengers in tight quarters and focused on getting wealthier passengers to their destinations faster.
In addition to its record breaking transatlantic flight on February 7, 1996, mentioned previously, the Concorde also set both the official "Westbound Around the World" and "Eastbound Around the World" air speed records. The eastbound record was set in October 1992 with a circumnavigation of the world from Lisbon, Portugal in 32 hours, 49 minutes, and 3 seconds. The westbound record was set in August 1995 with a circumnavigation of the world from JFK International Airport in 31 hours, 27 minutes, and 49 seconds. Both of these circumnavigations included six refueling stops.
