We measure how fast something is by figuring out how long the object takes to get to their destination. A snail and a dog may walk the same path to school, but the dog would take less time and would be faster!
When objects get really fast, we can compare the speed of an object to the speed of sound. In fact, supersonic jets fly faster than the speed of sound, which means that you will see the jet before you hear it. The loud sound it makes won't be able to catch up to it!
If they were race a distance of 100 miles, who would win?
Afterwards, you can check your own speed at home by seeing how much time it takes for you to run 100 feet!
The Tomcat can go supersonic. That means it can go faster than the speed of sound!
Top Speed: 1544 mph
The Hornet was extremely quick and fast. It is also supersonic!
It is used by the Navy's Flight Demonstration Team, the Blue Angels.
Top Speed: 1190 mph
