Needs of Plants and Animals:
This unit examines the problem of the declining monarch population. The students learn the role of scientists, helping a group of children from Mariposa Grove, a fictional community, to explain why there are no more caterpillars in a community garden. To solve the problem the students learn how to attract monarchs to their community.
Sunlight and Weather:
In this unit the children learn how sunlight causes changes in the temperature of different surfaces.
Pushes and Pulls:
This year we will go from biologists, to meteorologists and finally, engineers. During the Pushes and Pulls unit, the children will learn about movement, force and even participate in the design of a class pinball machine.
