Language

Language refers to the words we use in order to communicate. This include syntax (word order), morphology (grammar), and semantics (vocabulary).

Some children have delays in their language skills. This can be in their receptive language (also known as comprehension or understanding of language) and/or their expressive language (also known as their ability to speak and communicate their ideas orally). We target these skills in therapy through a variety of language-rich activities, such as books and games.

The following links provide further information from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) about developmental norms and grade-level expectations, as well as how you can help support your child's language skills at home.
