I am so happy to be your 6th grade math teacher this year! Here is our math classroom plan focusing on Safe, Respectful, and Responsible expectations for our class. Please review the plan at home for homework and also share it with your parents.

Listen to the teacher.
Students are expected to follow the South Huntington School District Code of Behavior.

Upon entering the room,
Please sit in assigned seat and take out your materials.
Listen for instructions.
Act polite, friendly, and helpful to the teacher and peers.
Responsible
Students are expected to be in their seats with all their math materials when the bell rings.
Students are expected to have the proper class materials everyday. The following items are needed for math class:
5 subject spiral notebook
Agenda
Pocket folder
Highlighter
3 or more sharpened pencils daily
iReady Workbook
Simple calculator
Homework will be given regularly. The assignment will be written on the board and should be copied everyday into your agenda. Assignments are due the next day unless otherwise stated. Homework must be neat and organized with all work shown; a list of answers is not acceptable. Homework is an integral part of learning. In addition, you will receive a homework grade as part of your quarterly grade.
Students are required to make up any work they miss when absent. It is your responsibility to find out what you missed. Please ask a classmate about the missed work or email me.
Tests or quizzes will be given often in class. Students will be told in advance of any tests. Students who are absent for tests are expected to take them as soon as they return. Tests and quizzes will not be postponed for students that miss class for music S.G.I.’s, field trips, discipline reasons, etc…
Grading Policy- Your quarter grade accounts for test and quiz grades, homework completion, class participation, and preparedness.
Chapter tests /quizzes 40%
Homework/Cumulative review 30%
Classwork 20%
Participation 10%
Extra help is available during recess and after school(**Tues. & Thurs.- permission slip needed to participate). In this class, most work will be completed during our lesson time. My goal is for students to practice and master math concepts with my support in the classroom.
Homework will only be assigned if:
A student does not complete their classwork during the lesson,
A student refuses to participate or puts forth little effort, or
A student misbehaves and does not use class time responsibly.
What this means:
If a student uses class time wisely and participates, they will usually not have homework.
If a student does not complete their work in class, it becomes homework and must be finished at home.
Homework is expected to be turned in the next school day.
Why this policy exists:
I want students to take ownership of their effort and behavior in class. This policy ensures that homework is a natural consequence of how class time is used, rather than extra busywork.
Thank you for supporting your child in being responsible, respectful, and ready to learn in math each day!

AIS math support class uses a pass/fail grade. Your quarterly grade is from the work you complete on the iReady program in class regularly. Please make sure you complete any iReady lesson for homework that was not completed in class.
