As students beginning the sixth grade you will be faced with many new and exciting responsibilities.  This information sheet will provide you and your families with curriculum resources, and make known policies and procedures for the upcoming year.

I look forward to a productive and successful school year.

Curriculum

Silas has adapted the I-Ready Classroom Mathematics program; a core mathematics program designed to help all students be successful with rigorous, grade-level content by using flexible, equitable, and accessible instruction.  In addition to the instruction and practice provided in the student worktext, students will have access to digital resources through I-readyConnect.com

Our Silas Wood school community has purchased the IXL program to help students succeed in math this year!  IXL's adaptive practice reinforces teacher instruction through progressive difficulty and immediate feedback.  IXL helps students effectively navigate specific skill areas and challenge them at the right level.  In addition, EdPuzzle is a resource that introduces students to self-paced learning with interactive video lessons; direct links can be found within each math unit. Please refer to our Google sites for additional resources to aid in understanding all units.

Homework/Classroom Policies

We will streamline sharing information using the google classroom learning platform.  Students will regularly check our google classroom's page for homework assignments, support materials, announcements, and any other important information. It is a great resource for students and parents!

Homework is important and necessary to reinforce math skills learned in class.  Your grade in math will depend on it.  Assignments will be posted in google classroom daily, and should be copied into your Agenda Book each day.  We expect homework to be neat, and all work shown; answers only will not be accepted.  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up missed work, and contact a homework buddy for explanation if needed.  Homework will be reviewed and all of your questions will be answered.

All students are expected to be attentive, prepared, and follow all classroom rules and etiquette.  You are expected to maintain an organized notebook, and have all materials with you each day:

Testing and Grading

All tests, quizzes, and graded assessments will be calculated as 60% of your quarterly grade.  Cumulative Reviews will be assigned each week, and calculated as 15% of your quarterly grade.  Cumulative reviews are mandatory and will be counted as a 0% if not submitted.

Your quarter grade is made up of all assessments, cumulative reviews, attendance, homework completion, class participation and preparedness.  The grading policy for all math 6th graders is as follows:

              Assessments - 60%          Cumulative Reviews - 15%           Attendance/Homework/Class Participation - 25%

Silas Wood is a wonderful and exciting  place. I can’t wait to meet all of you and help to make your first experience in middle school a thrilling one!
