VE provides a solution for schools to offer all students meaningful skills-based career experiences. Through our hands-on, task-based curricula, students test drive potential careers and develop in-demand skills and competencies that post-secondary institutions and employers are seeking. By managing the day-to-day operations of a company, students not only develop business skills and an entrepreneurial mindset, they also identify career pathways that align with their interests, talents, and aspirations.
Students taking VE have the opportunity to apply for up to 9 college credits over 2 years through Walt Whitman's partnership with LIU. Links and information will be sent out in the begining of the fall and spring semesters by Mr. Ferrante.
For first time students (VE1s) VE offers an Honors weighting but for our second year students (VE2s) VE offers an AP weighting on high school transcripts.
VE is not your traditional class. In VE students will be filling the roles of various members of a working company. These roles include but are not limited to working in Marketing, Digital Media, Social Media, Accounting, Human Resources, and C-Suite positions. Since the entire class revolves around competitions students' grades are also based on their success in these competitions. For a full explanation of the grading system please use this link:
Students who take VE are expected to take part in a number of trade shows and competitions throughout the school year. This means that students will be missing at least one day of school per quarter in order to compete and are expected to be in good academic standing in all of their other classes to travel with the class.
The VE Summer Assignment is to be completed by the second day of school. Students are able to work in groups of no more than 3 students, and will be presenting to the class starting on the second day of school. Please see the attached document to the right for more information on the Summer Assignment.
