Welcome to kindergarten at Countrywood Primary Center! My name is Miss Nutt and it is my pleasure to be your kindergarten teacher during your very first year of school in South Huntington UFSD. I have a busy and engaging year of learning planned for you. We will be learning to read, write, make 10, add, subtract, and how to be a student that can learn to the best of your ability. We will practice mindfulness, how to be a community of learners, a class family, and we will be learning about what makes each of us unique as individuals and celebrating our diverse cultures. I am very excited to meet you and show you our classroom.
Orientation is Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Bus transportation is provided and encouraged. You should have received your child’s bus pass with pick up time and location. On Orientation Day the bus pick up time will be approximately two hours later than the time indicated on your child’s bus pass. We are in room 101 in the kindergarten wing. Our classroom is close to the main entrance and easy to find. Please bring all your school supplies with you to orientation, including a complete change of clothes for your child to keep at school including underwear and socks. Please label the clothing and send it to school in a gallon sized ziplock bag labeled with your child’s name. As the children are learning to navigate scheduled time frames and communicating their needs, sometimes accidents can happen. We will be organizing our school supplies and learning the proper way to use each of them during the first weeks of school.
Please also bring to orientation a family picture and a brief background about your child’s name i.e. how/why you chose your child’s name to be used for a special Back to School project during the first weeks of school.
We have snack time every day. Starting the first day of school, please bring a healthy snack that is labeled with your child’s name and packed in a bag that is separate from your lunch (if you are not buying lunch from school and have a packed lunch from home). Packing the snack in a separate bay is extremely important. We have snacks at times different from lunch. If your child’s snack is packed with their lunch they bring from home, the children get confused and eat their snack with their lunch and then are upset when they have no snack at snack time. The children are learning to be on a schedule and to eat at scheduled times that are limited in time. Please send a water bottle each day also. A water bottle that does not leak or spill when knocked over is preferred. Breakfast and lunch are daily available to purchase.
In an effort to keep your child as healthy as possible, We practice proper hand washing, hand and surface sanitizing, as well as proper use of tissues constantly throughout the day. We will be having science/health lessons on this topic at the beginning of the school year (and throughout the year). We go through a lot of hand soap, hand sanitizer, tissues and disinfecting wipes. If you would like to donate any of these items to our classroom it would be greatly appreciated. You may bring your donation to orientation along with your child’s other school supplies.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me at cnutt@shufsd.org.
* The link to Parent Square, our communication tool for parents and teachers, will be posted asap.
If your child will be absent from school and/or there are any changes in their dismissal procedure, you must write a note/call the main office to let them know.
I look forward to seeing you at orientation on Tuesday, September 2nd. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Sincerely,
Ms. Nutt
