Walt Whitman High School Internship Program


Walt Whitman High School is proud to provide an internship program for students who are interested in a specific career to obtain an on-site, non-paid career exploration experience. This program allows students to observe and/or work with a mentor to gain knowledge about each profession. These internships are available to juniors and seniors and run in partnership with Western Suffolk BOCES/Wilson Tech.

Students who successfully complete 54 internship hours will receive one 1/2 credit on their high school transcript.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Students interested in pursuing an internship must meet the following requirements:

  • Interns must be in good academic standing, have good attendance and a clean discipline record. Excessive absences may result in removal from the internship program.

  • All prospective interns must be interviewed by the Internship Coordinator before they are accepted into the program.

  • Transportation must be provided by the intern.

  • All prospective interns are required to complete a Wilson Tech application and meet any other requirements stipulated by the internship site.

  • Interns are required to submit timesheets in a timely fashion.
