Walt Whitman Jazz Band

Club Outline

WWHS Jazz Band is a co-curricular ensemble with a long history and tradition in the South Huntington school community that meets weekly. This band plays NYSSMA level 5 & 6 music as well as classic big band tunes and arrangements from the last 100 years. WWHS Jazz Band is a very rigorous, audition only group and any WWHS student can audition in grades 9-12. The band consists of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, drum set, keyboard, guitar, and bass players. The Jazz Band performs two evening concerts, various district events, Oheka Castle in June and NYSSMA Majors Festival if applicable. All performances are mandatory and members must wear the required concert attire.

Attendance - Only 2 unexcused absences will be allowed during each semester (1st/2nd quarter), (3rd/4th quarter). Any more will result in potentially being dismissed from the group. A contract will need to be signed by a parent/guardian.

Black shirt, Black pants or skirt (skirts must be knee length or longer), Black shoes
