Walt Whitman Jazz Band
An interest meeting will be held Tuesday September 12th in the band room (Room 534) at 2:30pm. The meeting will last approximately 30 mins.
Audition music will be provided and a signup sheet will be posted outside the band room. All returning members must audition
First rehearsal will held the last week of September (Tues Sept 26th - Friday Sept 29th). Date of practice will be determined
Club Outline
WWHS Jazz Band is a co-curricular ensemble with a long history and tradition in the South Huntington school community that meets weekly. This band plays NYSSMA level 5 & 6 music as well as classic big band tunes and arrangements from the last 100 years. WWHS Jazz Band is a very rigorous, audition only group and any WWHS student can audition in grades 9-12. The band consists of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, drum set, keyboard, guitar, and bass players. The Jazz Band performs two evening concerts, various district events, Oheka Castle in June and NYSSMA Majors Festival if applicable. All performances are mandatory and members must wear the required concert attire.
Attendance - Only 2 unexcused absences will be allowed during each semester (1st/2nd quarter), (3rd/4th quarter). Any more will result in potentially being dismissed from the group. A contract will need to be signed by a parent/guardian.
