What Information to Include:

• A summary of a big idea

• Paraphrase a point into your own words

• Quotation (use sparingly!!)

Taking Notes:

• Record information in your own words and as briefly as possible (phrases are OK!)

• Make sure you understand it! (don't just copy words or use synonyms)

• Use bullet points to help avoid plagiarism

• Don't twist facts or ideas into something the author did not say

• Record the page number on each note

  • page numbers for books, eBooks; 

  • no page numbers for Web sites, most database article
