We have some amazing teachers and an education assistant working with our multilingual students between our Burnsville and Richfield Campus. They are Jera Seigars and Rachel Rosenblum at the Burnsville Campus and Kristine Smith and Taj Moore at the Richfield Campus. Ms. Seigars has been a building substitute. She then began her E.L. role and is going into her third year at Seven Hills. Ms. Rosenblum was a second-grade teacher before also starting her new role this year. Ms. Smith has been an E.L. teacher for 17 years and is in her 5th year at Seven Hills. Ms. Moore has been an educational assistant with Seven Hills for the last 4 years and this is her first year full time with the EL Department.
Your children are amazing and it is a pleasure to work with them each day. The multilingual and multicultural experiences of your students, enrich each other with the important skills needed in international and intercultural relations as they grow.
Our goal is for students to develop their language and communication with a global mindset. This looks like reading short stories from the voices of other multilingual youth, discussing and writing responses from a personal perspective, and how culture plays an important role in our wider society.
All students at SHPA are practicing active listening and interpersonal discourse. These skills are crucial in the participation of Socratic Seminars.
SHPA teachers and staff use complex curriculum and vocabulary, in the content areas of science and social studies. All students are analyzing authentic text for a deeper understanding.
Learners today must become successful in finding joy and purpose in writing. Students are responding to important topics, first through discussion, and then through the structured writing process.
