With the recent changes in our country and around the world, many of us are facing fear and uncertainty at a level that we have not previously experienced. We find ourselves increasingly unsettledas new events and information unfold and we may find it difficult to find our center, to find the peacethat felt much easier to find in the past.

In this retreat, we will explore what is happening around us at a deeper level and work with practices that allow us to find peace in the midst of chaos. We will work with coming home to our true nature, findingcalmness in the storm and connected compassion.

Optional Contribution: A contribution to Show Me Dharma is not required to attend the retreat, but you must register if you plan to take part in the Saturday and Sunday sessions. Any amount to aid us with the retreat as well as ongoing expenses is greatly appreciated!

About the Teacher: John has been teaching meditation for over 25 years. His practice and teaching combines Vipassana, loving-kindness and non-dualteachings from various spiritual traditions. John has studied with several teachers, but his primary teacher has been Matthew Flickstein. Work with Matthewincludes numerous retreats and several extended study programs, including teacher training programs, a one-year study of the Satipatthana Sutta, and a two- year program on non-duality. John’s personal retreat experience in recent years has focused primarily on self-retreats. John’s teachings these days focus onfinding our true nature and living life from that nature with peace and joy.

John is the primary teacher for Insight Meditation of Cleveland and leads several sanghas in the northeast Ohio area. He leads retreats and workshops throughout the eastern United States.

John is married and has three sons, ages 44, 40 (died in May 2019), and 15 years old. Together withhis wife, Laurie, John leads a mindful parenting group in the Cleveland area.

Intentions

To seek deep, embodied, joyful relationship with ourselves, each other, and all the rich diversity of beings that comprise our Living Earth.

To awaken to the realization that we are all connected, that we are all part of a constantly changing Mother Earth. To become aware that to consider humans as separate and independent is a dangerous illusion that causes immense suffering in this world.

To live into the awareness and the mystery of constantly changing, complex life system (Gaia) that sustains us and is one of the wonders of this Universe.

To realize that all we love arises inseparable from Earth and from the living Earth community in ways endless and unfathomable. To pay respects to the lands, waters, creatures, and rooted ones of each place. To be grateful for the rich life that we share with all earthly beings.

Monday Morning Class 8-9:30

The Monday morning class is a committed practice group that offers an opportunity to bring the practice of insight meditation into all aspects of daily life. It is for those with several months’ meditation experience. Participants register and commit to regular attendance of the meetings. The class is currently taught by Tricia, and the current book is Down to Earth Dharma by Rebecca Shaw.

On November 7th, the Thursday Night Book Group began our next book "Understanding our Mind, Fifty Verses on Buddhist Psychology" by Thich Nhat Hnah.
