Do you ever think why does fourth grade get to math olympiad or battle of the books?
Well that is what I call opportunity age limits. It is when you are not able to do an advanced or harder special activity based on your age. Teachers say that kids of younger ages aren't ready or will have difficulty learning the curriculum and challenges included in those activities.
I thought about that and disagreed with what they said. I think anyone from first grade to sixth should be able to do any activity that they are interested in. We could change the curriculum for younger students so they can participate in these activities.
Some activities that I think need to change are:
Battle of the books
6th-grade book section (down to 5th and up)
Math Olympiad
Word Masters
Talent Show
If we did this and made the activities available for all ages, kids who need a challenge or harder work can participate in the activities and be more challenged with schoolwork.
