Are Fidgets Tools or Toys?
We are wondering what people are thinking about fidgets. Do you think fidgets are good for class? Or do you think they’re distracting?
Ms.Cassidy (Mac 1 teacher) says, "They’re fine outside the classroom but in class they are distracting for everyone."
Iljia (4th grader) says, "They can sometimes be helpful, but sometimes they can be distracting."
Zach (3rd grader) says, "They are annoying to other people trying to focus."
Mrs. Gruber (Mac 2 teacher) says, "They are very useful to kids who need them to help
them focus but they can quickly turn into toys."
Katherine (3rd grader) says, "They are a distraction and they should be used for recess and lunch only. Sometimes you can use them in class because they can be relaxing. Don’t use them in mindfulness because they can be disturbing to others trying to calm down."
Anya (4th grader) says, "You should use them only because you need them not because you just want them to look cool."
Zora (3rd grader) thinks fidgets can be a distraction and they should only be used at recess and lunch but not in class.
Juliana (3rd grader) says, "Fidgets can distract people because other kids that don’t have fidgets will be jealous and ask to play with them and then everybody will start talking and the teacher won't like that."
What do you think about fidgets?
They are good for focusing.
They can be small
Some can be quiet
They’re fun to trade
They’re good for recess
They help kids not be on screens
For young kids they can help with dexterity and people with ADHD
Cons:
They can be very loud and distracting
People bring them to mindfulness while people are trying to focus on there own breathing
People bring them to reading and they can be in sight so people can’t read that much
They are easy to fight over
Kids can steal them because they are small
When they are dropped they are loud
Kids can only focus on the fidget not class.
