There are many holidays celebrated in December. We are going to tell you about some of the most celebrated holidays. Maybe you celebrate some of these!
Christmas: Christmas is about when Jesus was born and it is a day where you can spend time with your family. Also you may exchange gifts.
New Year’s Day: New Year is a day where we celebrate the new year coming. But we also celebrate the things we did that year. Some people throw parties and make New Year’s resolutions.
Hanukkah : Hanukkah is Jewish holiday. Hanukkah lasts eight days. Each day you light a candle. Some people also open presents.
Kwanzaa : Kwanzaa is a holiday celebrated by african american culture.
It starts on the 26th of December and ends on the 1st of January.
Now we are going to tell you about some unique Christmas traditions from around the world.
In Ukraine, people decorate Christmas trees with spiders and spider webs because a story tells that poor people did not have money to buy ornaments.
In Japan, people eat Kentucky Fried Chicken for Christmas. This was started by the owner of KFC. He heard a sad customer, he was from a different country. He missed eating turkey on Christmas.
In Iceland, children believe in the Yule Lads. The Yule lads are tolls who visit. Kids leave their shoes out at night and sometimes wake up to a surprise! If they were bad, they would wake up to rotten potatoes in their shoes!
In Austria, children who are good get a visit from St. Nick. Children who were bad that year get a visit from Krampus, a very scary creature.
In Australia, Christmas happens in the summer! They have barbecues, go to the beach, and sometimes Santa Claus visits on a surfboard!
