5 Fun Things To Do In Summer
by Hannah
The school year is just about to come to a close and with it a new season is just around the corner…you guessed it! Summer. School is out, and all you have left to do is play outside in the sunshine, hang out with friends and lazily sip cool glasses of lemonade at the beach. All those things are great - but chances are at some point this summer you’ll be bored. Then you’ll sit there on your couch, thoughtfully stroking your chin, wondering what in the world you should be doing when suddenly, you remember that way back in June there was a newspaper article about 5 fun things to do in summer. You go to your backpack, dig it up, and well, here you are. Without further ado, here are 5 fun things to do in summer:
Make Popsicles
The summer sun can be super hot, and one of my favorite ways to cool down is by licking a nice sweet popsicle. In order to make some super simple popsicles, you will need these materials:
Dixie cups
Popsicle sticks
Juice of your choice
Pour the juice into your dixie cup and stick in a popsicle stick, pop it in the freezer and wait until the juice is frozen and whala, popsicles.
Go for a bike, scooter, skateboard or walk.
This is both a great way to exercise and a way to soak up the warm weather and sunshine.
Create your own board game to play with a friend.
A rainy day can only mean one thing: staying inside. One of my favorite things to do on a rainy day is play board games, so why not make your own? For this craft you will need:
Markers, pens, crayons, or colored pencils
Game pieces or tokens
Paper
A dice
First, grab some paper and draw a winding path on it. Next, divide the path into as many sections as you want places for your game pieces to land on. Add in things like “miss one turn” or “jump forward 2 spaces” on some of the sections to help make the game more interesting. To play with a friend, take turns rolling the dice and moving forward the number of spaces you rolled. If you land on a space with an action, follow that action. Whoever gets to the end of your path first wins.
Read!
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite summer pastimes is reading. Just grab a book you might have around your house or head over to the public library, check out a book, and start reading. If you want to get creative, you could write your own story. These creative writing prompts might come in handy (if you are reading the print edition, you will need to go to the Beagle Times Website to access the link).
Draw on the sidewalk with chalk.
This is a fun way to share your drawings with others. When I’m outside I always enjoy seeing what people have drawn on the sidewalk. You can find chalk at Target, on Amazon and many other places during summer. A helpful tool when drawing with sidewalk chalk is having a spray bottle full of water in case you make a mistake and would like to erase it.
I hope you enjoyed these activities and hope everyone has a great summer :)
