Is it true that the fifth graders are growing herbs and lettuce? Yes, yes it is. The fifth graders are growing lettuce and herbs in something called a flex farm. What is a flex farm? A flex farm is a farm that grows food safely for people to eat. It uses something called hydroponics. Hydroponics is basically where you submerge the whole entire root in water and there is no soil involved.
Fifth grade students have different opinions but here are two. The first one is Harper. "I like the flex farm and I think it is a good opportunity for kids to grow their own food."
Emma said, “I think flex farm is meh. Like I get how it could help us with gardening skills, but it's just a bit boring. We plant seeds and then wait three months for some veggies we won’t even end up eating.”
The flex farm is right in front of you when walk in to Mr. Peterka’s room. It is about as wide as the door frame and is about 5 ft. 4 in. It is really bright and tall. It is a White cylinder that can open inside. There are a bunch of plants growing in it. As you can see the flex farm helps people eat and grow food safely.
