“It’s a beautiful night,“ said Cindy, Fred’s mother.
“ Yeah,“ Fred said glumly.
“ What’s wrong sweetie,” said Cindy.
“I just… wish dad was here,“ said Fred.
“ Yeah,“ said Cindy, a lot more depressed herself.
“ I do too but he’s not and we have to live with that.”
10 Years Later Florida
“See you later Ms.Janet,“ said Fred.
“Goodbye Fred dear,” said Ms. Janet as Fred skidded across the pebbles on his bike to his house.
“Hey doofus.”
Fred sighed. He recognized the shout of that jerk who wasn’t bright enough to start a christmas tree light himself without even turning around ( which he didn’t by the way ): Tod Charles. He sighed again and kicked it into high gear.
Tod still caught up,he always did.
“Hey Tod do you know the difference between you and a ditch,” said Fred.
“What?” said Tod.
“They’re deep you’re not,” said Fred.
Tod growled and said “Do you know what’s the same between you and a ditch.”
“What?” said Fred
“You’re in one,” said Tod as he pushed Fred off the sidewalk and sure enough into a ditch.
Fred rolled with his bike until he hit a big rock.
Fred grabbed the rock and pulled himself up.
as he brushed himself off he noticed that the rock he’d pulled himself up with and was still leaning against was glowing faintly blue.
“What the…,” said Fred but before he could finish his sentence he felt a zap coursing through him.
“Ahhh,“ said Fred even though the zap didn’t really hurt.
As he looked down at the hand that touched the rock he saw it had a pair of swords crossed over a shield all of them glowing blue!

Fred didn’t know what was happening all he wanted to do was go home.
Suddenly he was home in his bed.
“I must be dreaming,“ said Fred but he wasn't.
As he looked around he realized he was indeed home.
He looked down to check and see if the swords and shield were still there, sure enough they were even though they seemed to be glowing less.
“Oh hello sweetie,” said Cindy Fred’s mom.
“Hey Mom,” said Fred quickly covering up the blue weaponry on his hand with the covers of his bed ( though he didn’t know why because if he couldn’t trust his mom he couldn’t he couldn’t trust anyone ).
“I didn’t hear you come upstairs or even in the house Fred,” said Cindy.
“I guess I’m just really quiet sometimes,” said Fred
( still wondering why he was lying to his mom ).
“Yeah I guess so,” said Cindy catching the look in his eye.
“How was work today,” asked Fred changing the subject.
“Fine,” said Cindy still looking at him funny and a bit suspiciously.
“How was your day,” Cindy asked inquiringly, invitingly, and casually all at the same time.
“Fine,” said Fred, trying to sound casual too.
“Anything else you want to tell me, maybe about the bully who’s been picking on you?” said Cindy
“Oh him I…,” said Fred trying to find words. “ He left me alone today,” said Fred in a voice he hoped sounded bright.
“Really,” said Cindy.
“Then why do you have the “GD” mark on your hand?”
