Easy Cooking and Baking
By Rose and Maya
Hi, we are Rose and Maya, and we are in fifth grade! We are writing about easy cooking and baking that you all can do at home! First up, how to make an easy mug cake that takes about five minutes, and that you can decorate for Halloween!
WARNING: THIS RECIPE CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING;
Milk, eggs, and may contain nuts
The ingredients are:
5 Oreos (or any generic brand if you want)
Half a cup of milk
Optional:
Whipped cream
Sprinkles
One Oreo or Oreo dust (for decoration)
Directions:
First, put the Oreos into a medium size plastic bag. Then, pound the oreos into a fine dust using a kitchen mallet, or a stainless steel water bottle. Next, pour the oreos into a mug and measure out the milk, then pour that in too! Mix with a fork or spoon until it feels like cake batter. Next, put the mug in the microwave for five minutes on high (we used a 700 watt microwave).
Then, when it’s ready, let it cool for five minutes, or until it’s cooled down.
Also, if you want to decorate it, you can either put whipped cream or vanilla (or whatever flavor you want) ice cream on top. You can also put sprinkles on top too! Enjoy!!
Now, for the cooking portion of this article, we are going to make a Halloween stir fry!
It is a great side dish for any meal and is super simple. Almost anyone can make it!
Please note, you may need an adult to help with chopping/dicing the veggies and using a stove.
The ingredients are:
1 purple carrot
1 orange carrot
1 and a half cups of white rice
2 tablespoons olive oil or any other cooking oil/spray
Optional:
Broccoli
1 red bell pepper
1 mushroom
1 egg
DIRECTIONS:
First, boil 2 cups of water on the stove. Once the water is boiling, carefully pour one cup of rice into the pot and simmer for 20 minutes.
While the rice is cooking, start dicing the vegetables. Please ask an adult for help with this step. First, rinse the vegetables under warm or lukewarm water. You may use a colander if you want. Then put the vegetables on a cutting board or a hard surface that you can use a knife on. Then, chop them up.
Put the vegetables into a bowl and season with salt, pepper, and a tiny bit of olive oil. Next, add two tablespoons of olive oil into a medium or big sized saucepan on medium heat. Ask an adult for help with this step because of the risk of splattering oil. Once the oil starts bubbling, add in the diced vegetables and rice. Stir with a spatula until the veggies feel soft.
Then add in one egg and scramble it into the mixture. Finally, take it off the heat and add in a dash (or however much you want) of soy sauce. Stir it in, then plate it and add any garnish you want!
