What is Curriculum?
Curriculum is the foundation of a strong educational program. At the core, it is a series of documents detailing how our school meets all of the learning standards established by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE). When looking at the documents, you will see the standards, skills, topics, and performance expectations of all of our students from grades K-8, in all subject areas. Our curricula also takes into account that students learn in different ways and provides information for teaching students with IEP's, students who study English as a Second Language (ESL), and Gifted/Talented (GT) students.
Curriculum documents are re-written and/or updated to meet the latest standards set by the NJDOE and are approved each August by the South Hackensack Board of Education and implemented by teachers in the classroom. Administration oversees that implementation and ensures that all students receive the highest-quality education.
Programs such as Wilson Fundations, McGraw Hill, IXL, Lexia, and Reading A-Z are programs we use to teach and support the curriculum. Additionally, platforms such as Google Classroom and Seesaw are used to help students interact with the curriculum, access important learning materials, and communicate with their teacher about assignments and tasks.
