Step 1: The Choose Two Challenge
The reader picks any two (2) books from their grade-level list.
After completing the book, students complete one activity from an activity menu (see below). The activities are self-contained and creative, based on your reading of the book. There is no need to submit them to the teacher unless you simply want them to know you did some work over the summer.
After completing each book, students select one activity from the choices below for that book.
Comic Strip Recap: Storyboard a pivotal scene in 6–8 graphic-novel panels (hand-drawn or digital).
Reel-It-In Trailer: Script & film a 60-second “movie trailer” on a phone—voice-over + three key quotes.
Book Bento: Arrange 5–7 symbolic objects around the book, photograph from above, and caption each item.
Soundtrack Side: Build a 5-song playlist; write a one-sentence liner note for how each track fits.
Map Maker: Draw (or Google-My-Map) the story’s setting, labeling at least 6 locations & events.
Alternative Ending Micro Fiction: Rewrite the last chapter in ≤ 300 words, keeping tone & voice.
Sports Desk Recap: Pretend the climax (highest point of dramatic conflict) of the book was a sporting event; write a 250-word ESPN-style recap.
Big Idea Infographic: Use Canva or Google Drawings to visually represent one theme with statistics, quotes, and icons.
After reading and completing a task from the menu for your first book, read a second book and choose a different task from the menu for the second book. That’s 2 books × 1 activity = 2 total tasks.
It's up to you. Choose any book about a topic you enjoy and ensure it's at your reading level. However, here are some suggestions if you can't find a book on your own. Click on any title below to find out more.
