Year 3 and Year 4 spent a creative and exciting morning building rockets and then launching them in the playground. Jonathan Allcock, a senior school physics teacher, came and ran the workshops. A beautiful, blue sky spring day was just perfect for the launches.

The launching equipment worked fine but some children soon discovered they could blow the top off their rocket if it did not have plenty of sellotape on the nose cone. Many others made a successful launch as the camera tried to track their progress high in the sky above the playground.

Not all launches go to plan. The post launch investigation showed that the nose cone to rocket main structure interface required additional sellotape. Science investigations that don't work first time provide additional information for the next phase.
