School District of Shiocton GT
School District of Shiocton GT Program
The GT programming is like a revolving door. As a student displays proficiency in the classroom, the classroom teacher and/or the GT teacher/coordinator will provide an assignment with more challenge for the student. At times, it may be facilitated in a small group, or individually within the classroom or resource room. This may include:
A hands-on project connected to a lesson concept
Reading club connected to global issues
A chosen passion project
Differentiated assignments that broaden the range of the subject matter
Research connected to the lesson for more depth
A collaborative project with a service outreach purpose
Occasionally, experiences will be created outside of the classroom by the GT teacher/coordinator for students needing to advance their learning. This can include advocating for themselves and teaching others to do so. Attending workshops at CESA 6, other districts and involvement in numerous contests such as Battle of the Books, Letters About Literature, Noetic Math Contest, Geography Bee and Scripps Spelling Bee. Advanced learners may independently or in small groups work on computer programs to be further challenged and/or accelerate their learning in a subject area.
Students in the GT program attend College Day at UW-Stevens Point in sixth grade.
If a student has been identified in a GT area, but is no longer showing proficiency in this identified area, he/she may not be provided challenge work until proficiency is shown for current objectives. In this case, the student will remain on task with the overall classroom lesson content.
