How do I get a Public Defender?
Public defenders are appointed by the court. If you are charged with a crime and cannot afford to hire an attorney, ask the judge to appoint a public defender. You may be asked to complete a certificate of assets to determine eligibility.
What if I have a type of case that is not eligible for the public defender?
If you cannot afford to hire an attorney, you may be eligible for help through Legal Aid Online. This site includes an application for a lawyer through Land of Lincoln Legal Aid as well as forms that you can file with the court yourself.
When is my next court date?
You can look up a case on Judici.com and find court dates and other information about the case.
