IMPORTANT ORDER UPDATE FROM THE SCHOOL (7TH DECEMBER 2020)
Thank you for your order with Shevington High School for a Chromebook for your child.
You will be aware that the school switched from an ASUS device to a Lenovo Chromebook due to global supplies with promised delivery December/January for the Lenovo Chromebooks. Last week we were informed that the delivery time had been pushed back to March for the Lenovo device due to global supplies.
As a result the school has now managed to secure an order and delivery for 400 Acer 733U devices, which are of an equivalent specification. They are expected to arrive in the UK on the 13th January with school to receive them shortly afterwards. We want to assure parents that the device we have chosen is designed for education use and comes with the same warranty and insurance cover.
This has been an extremely frustrating process for the school, however we hope parents understand. The devices are to be used for the duration of their time at Shevington so we feel the long term benefits will last beyond Covid in-line with the schools Teaching and Learning strategy.
Due to competitive tendering the cost of the device is slightly higher the Lenovo device, but we have managed to secure the price at the same level as our original offer.
Following requests from some year 10 parents we worked with partners to provide a Chromebook offer for Y10 students. Please check the main page of this site for general details regarding BYOD and the rationale for Chromebooks in school.
There is no requirement to bring a device into school, however many students are seeing a benefit of being to access Google classroom in school and at home.
Students will have the option to bring in their own device in line with our BYOD policy (FULL DETAILS HERE) or purchase a device from school.
The advantage of the school purchased devices is the insurance, warranty and support.
In light of Covid there may be ongoing disruption to learning so we want to ensure all students can access learning materials in school and at home.
