Self-Care

Something all teenagers and parents should know about teenage brains!

  • Your brain is in a very important stage of development!

What is self-care?

Self-care is all about bubble baths and doing what want for yourself, right? Not exactly. "Self-care is not synonymous with self-indulgence or being selfish. Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy, you can be well, you can do your job, you can help and care for others, and you can do all the things you need to and want to accomplish in a day." -Moira Lawler (click here to read more)

There are different types of self-care:

  1. Emotional: positive self-talk, gratitude journaling, saying "no" to things that add unnecessary stress, practicing mindfulness

  2. Physical: getting enough sleep, finding a form of exercise you enjoy and making time for it every day, eating healthy, regular meals that include fruits, veggies, and whole grains

  3. Spiritual: attending worship or other religious services, spending time in prayer, getting out in nature, connecting with a higher power
