Raise the Roof Capital Campaign

The Shepherdstown Community Club (SCC) announces the "Raise the Roof" capital campaign to support the War Memorial Building for the next fifty years. Our beloved building needs structural repairs and updates to keep it shining and we can't do it alone. We need to raise $75,000 by October 2025.

We are now starting on three major priority projects to shore up the structure, improve safety, and make sure the building lasts into the future. The first project will install a standing seam metal roof and new guttering. The second project will install a fire detection system which will the notify the fire department of a fire even if no one is in the building. The third project will install electrical upgrades to old wiring. Additional projects for which we intend to pursue grant funding include window glazing and painting, repair to fascia and other exterior siding, and updates to the bathrooms.

The SCC was awarded a $50,000 matching grant from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, but this will only go so far. We know the grant won't cover everything. With so many repairs needed, we will need the funds to match the grant as well as continue with new projects in the future. With your help and the historic preservation state grant, we can provide some tender loving care to the War Memorial Building.
