Consistent with the Profile of a Shen Employee, substitutes must be self-directed learners who model good character and cultural competence. Substitutes must:

Possess technology readiness/resourcefulness
All substitutes must complete the required compliance trainings within 45 days of hire and once per school year thereafter, in order to remain eligible to substitute. Compliance trainings can be accessed via Vector Solutions.
All Certified Substitute Teachers & Registered Substitute Nurses are also required to take the updated mandated reporter training offered through New York State Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS) in child abuse and neglect/maltreatment identification by April 1, 2025 to be in compliance with N.Y. Soc. Serv. Law § 413(5).
Once approved to substitute at Shenendehowa CSD, instructional substitutes access both SmartFindExpress (SFE) and WincapWeb respectively for securing assignments and submitting for payment. Support Staff substitutes will receive requests for assignments via telephone/email/text and will submit hours worked to the main office for each assignment.
