Join us to Celebrate 75 Years of Shenendehowa Central School District on May 17, 2025!
As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Shenendehowa Central School District, we are reminded of the importance of community and the impact we can make when we come together. In this spirit, we are fundraising for a vital initiative: the Shenendehowa Bountiful Backpack Program.
This program directly addresses food insecurity among our students, providing essential nourishment over the weekend. Beyond alleviating hunger, it fosters improved academic performance, better attendance, and a more positive school environment.
Since its inception in 2014, the Bountiful Backpack Program has grown significantly. Initially serving 15 students, we expanded in 2016 to support 160-200 students, recognizing the critical need within our community. In the 2023-2024 school year alone, we distributed over 7,364 backpacks filled with food, thanks to the dedication of numerous community members.
In celebration of our 75th anniversary, let's amplify our impact and ensure this crucial program continues to thrive. Now more than ever, your support is critical as the Bountiful Backpack Program is 100% self-funded through fundraising efforts. This means we rely entirely on the generosity of our community to provide this essential service. In honor of our 75th year, we aim to raise $75,000.
How Can You Help? The annual cost to provide 7,364 backpacks to approximately 220 students is $60,000 per year. We are seeking your support to ensure the program's sustainability. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference.
Impactful Giving: Each backpack costs approximately $9.10 per week. Sponsoring a child for a full school year is $300.
Tax-Deductible Donations: All donations are tax-deductible and go directly towards purchasing food for the program.
Your Commitment Matters! All donations are made directly to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and are held in a dedicated account for the Shenendehowa Bountiful Backpack Program.
We will be accepting food and monetary donations at the 75th Anniversary celebration. If you can't make it, please make checks payable to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, noting "Shenendehowa Backpack Program" in the memo.
