Mission Statement

Shenendehowa libraries strive to provide collections that inspire curiosity, promote joy and, most importantly, assist students in developing a life-long love of reading. The Profile of a Shen Community provides a framework for this work, helping to guide thinking and decision making. To meet the varied needs of all students, Shenendehowa Libraries aspire to have a wide range of choices and materials. Library collections are developed to encourage independent reading and learning, recognize student cultures and identities, and foster personal growth. In addition to criteria such as accuracy and appropriateness to the age and level of the student, our professional librarians also build collections that support and enrich the curriculum, include a diversity of ideas and authors, and reflect the Shenendehowa students served. While the utmost care has been used in curating our Shenendehowa Library collections, parents/guardians are encouraged to review titles with their child. Appropriate choices are best made as a family.
