Sheldon Friesen for City of Morden Councillor
I am proud to say that I have been part of this community since 1967.
There has been much change in that time…but the one thing that hasn’t is my love of, and for the community.
I am here today having never had to, nor want to leave…and in this time I have been blessed with a life of many opportunities and events.
This community has afforded me the chance to be a part of the first Kindergarten Class held in Morden in 1967, to graduate from Morden Collegiate in 1980, to meet my life partner – my wife of 34 years – Lynn, and to raise two grown children – Kendra and Kieron, both of whom were enrolled in the French Immersion Program.
My roots in the community have extended to representation on the councils of our personal church and senior hockey team in various capacities, including multiple years as President of both organizations. I am also currently serving on the MCDC Retail Sub-Committee, and sat on a sub-committee for a CSA Medical Standard. In addition to the board representation, I have been involved in coaching and managing my children’s hockey teams throughout the years.
I was afforded several different careers, each with new learning opportunities and growing responsibilities. Sales and management opportunities in the automotive, recreational vehicle, and medical industries had prepared me for the ultimate opportunity…to be an entrepreneur. An area that gives me great pride was choosing to invest in, and locate our personal business, Variety Advertising, in the community of Morden.
When Lynn and I purchased Variety Advertising in 2002 as a home-based business, we never planned that we would outgrow our premises on 4 occasions…leading up to the purchase and renovation of 500 Stephen Street. This growth has allowed me to develop stronger strategic thinking and problem solving skills, and I believe equip me with the tools necessary to represent all citizens of Morden in the position of City Councillor.
