The Oak Mountain High School Drama Department seeks to give students opportunities in class and outside to explore their creative interests and build performance, design, and organizational skills that will help them achieve their dreams beyond the theater arts.
OMHS Drama is split into three key areas:
Theater I-III and Technical Theater classes
Our International Thespians chapter
After-school productions open to all students
Students and parents who are interested in learning more about our program (audition information, etc) should visit our student site: this site is intended for Shelby County staff or students only and requires a shelbyed.org login to view.
On March 13, 2020, the department production of this play was cancelled day-of when COVID came to Alabama. This year, we returned to Narnia with a large, January production featuring two OMMS students who shared the role of Lucy.
Students in Theatre II studied Hamlet and performed a 30-minute cutting at the competition. Every student in the class learned the Hamlet and Laertes sword fight.
Our Spring production of the longest running play in the world, Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap featured a lead and understudy cast. Students returned a day early from spring break to start tech for this show.
The winter 2025 musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella experienced some bumps along the way due to snow, but the show went on for two performances on January 12th. This production was a collaboration of the OMHS choir, band, and drama club.
Students devised an update on Commedia Dell'Arte for the Trumbauer theatre competition. Anderson Blount took home Best Supporting Actor for the role of Silvio.
