Meet the Teacher

Hello and welcome to Shelbyville Middle School. I am Ms. Betsy Davis and I am thrilled to be your sixth-grade social studies teacher. I have been teaching for a combined 23 years in Shelby and Hancock Counties grades 1-7.  I am excited to be teaching in my hometown; providing a safe, inviting place to learn and grow.  We are going to have an amazing year!

I graduated from Franklin College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1996.  In 2011, I earned my Masters' Degree in Education from Ball State University. I continue my educational growth through Professional Development Opportunities.  I look forward to continuing lifelong learning and encouraging my students to be lifelong learners as well.

I have been blessed with three wonderful children.  Two have gone completely through the Shelbyville Central School System and are chasing their dreams.  My youngest is a sophomore at SHS...He's now taller than I am. (We need an updated family picture).

I am here to help every student find success and joy in learning. We will be working together to ensure a fun and safe learning environment for all.  My classroom expectations are based on years of classroom experience incorporating educational experts like Harry Wong's proven techniques with common sense, research-based approach to managing a classroom for high-level student success.

I will be using PowerSchool, Google Classroom, as well as this website to assist in managing and communicating assignments and grades to both students and parents.  Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  Email is the best way to initially reach out. I am happy to schedule a Google Meet, phone conversation, or in-person meeting.
