16 January 2024: Veysel’s project, entitled “PyHYPER: Bridging Expertise with Open-Source Solutions for Sustainable Hydropower Design”, has been selected to receive funding in the Unleash Your Data and Software 2024 competition. The funding, worth almost £5k, will support Veysel to convert the very fast version of a toolbox for robust design of run-of-river hydropower plants, now existing in MATLAB, into Python to make it open source and widely accessible.
15 December 2023: Veysel's trip to COP28
Veysel received a remarkable chance to participate COP28 in the UAE, thanks to the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures University of Sheffield.
His main takeaways:
Being deeply rooted in the scientific domain, I gained valuable insights at COP28 on how global discussions and policy-making drive real change. Witnessing effective climate change practices was inspiring. Yet, the need for bridging the gap between scientific solutions and action is evident, highlighting the challenges without proper frameworks and government support.
