Uni Mental Health Day
A PGR Perspective
14th March 10.00-13.00
Fusion, Student Union Building
This is a free three hour event aimed at giving attendees the space to explore the impact on, and some techniques to manage, the mental health of PGR students. The event is for PGR students, and staff who work with PGR students. We are running the event on national University Mental Health Day, and have chosen to focus on PGR mental health as a reflection of the recent PGR Student Voice report and the concerns raised by students about the impact completing a PhD can have upon a person's mental wellbeing.
The event will consist of a combination of expert key speakers, facilitated group discussion and workshop activities, and a support information fayre.
To book your place visit MyDevelopment.
Aims of the event:
To share some expertise and current research on the impact of being a researcher on a person's mental health
To explore some support available and strategies for supporting PGR mental health
To get PGRs and staff who work with PGRs together so they can collaborate in workshop discussions around a variety of topics that research suggest needs addressing such as:
the PGR/supervisor relationship
The independent nature of PGR study can create isolation and presents challenges for self-motivation and self-management,
The issues around consistency of support and equitable approaches across the whole institution
Developing the PGR community in our university is key to enable peer support.
