Dr. Tamara Chidiac

PhD Researcher (2019-2022)

Tamara was a PhD researcher in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering  at the University of Sheffield, UK. She was co-supervised by Dr Brant Walkley, and was a member of both the Cements@Sheffield (MSE, led by Professor John L. Provis) and Sustainable Materials at Sheffield (CBE) research teams.

Tamara's PhD research focused on durability and service life modelling of alkali-activated materials, and was funded by the European project, DuRSAAM. This is part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Innovative Training Network (ITN), aimed at proving that alkali-activated concretes are durabile, reliable and sustainable building blocks for future constructions.

Tamara obtained her Masters degree in Chemical Engineering (Industrial Processes track) from the University of Balamand (UOB), Lebanon in 2019. During her Masters, she worked as a research trainee in the Environmental and Chemical Engineering Research unit, Faculty of Technology, University of Oulu Finland. Her research focused on the improvement of vanadia catalyst resistance against sulfur poisoning deactivation during oxidation reaction of two sulfur contaminated air pollutants into a useful chemical. Furthermore, in summer 2019, she worked in the research and development sector at EUROINK CHEMICAL S.R.L, Bucharest, Romania. Her task was to assist in developing a database of water-based inks as a recipe source to commercially produce eco-friendly printing inks with matching characteristics of inks originally based on toxic organic solvents.
