Latham is a Research Associate in cementitious materials in the Sustainable Materials at
Sheffield group, researching the application of low carbon cements for the encapsulation of
radioactive waste materials.
Latham’s PhD (sponsored by Nuclear Waste Services and the GREEN CDT) was as a part
of the Immobilisation Science Laboratory at the University of Sheffield, investigating the
immobilisation of separated PuO₂ in mineral-derived ceramic materials. This was with a
particular focus on the role of radiation on long term structural evolution and aqueous
durability.
Before his PhD, Latham completed his undergraduate masters degree in the Department of
Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield. Latham has been heavily
involved with public engagement and science outreach including Pint Of Science, the
international festival of glass, and primary outreach.
