Internship week

What will you be doing during the week?

Monday 13 April

Arrive from 9.45am at the lecture venue in your welcome email
At 10am we'll start with a welcome to the week
From 11am you'll be in your groups for teambuilding and to go through your project brief - what you'll produce, how to work together and the resources you can use
At 1pm organisations join you for your first project meeting
At 2pm you'll be in an essential session to go over AI and project planning principles - please join using this link.
Finally you'll go back to your teams to plan your work for tomorrow and for the rest of the week.

Tuesday 14 - Thursday 16 April

You’ll work on your project with your group from 10am-4pm each day
We'll be working with you to help you make the project a success and you can set up ongoing contact with your organisation as required
Each day there will be optional other activities to help develop your skills, break up your project time and build your network with other students
CV Surgeries will be available at the end of each day - drop in to get some advice on your CV or any current applications for graduate roles or placements

Friday 17 April

In the morning you'll have time to finalise your project and practice any presentations with us
You'll have a 90 minute wrap-up session with organisations to hand over your project. This could include discussing a report, giving a presentation, or talking through and handing over other resources - whatever was set as the project outcomes at the beginning of the week
Organisations will give you feedback and explain how your project outcomes will be used in their business
Networking - an opportunity to chat with other organisations involved in the programme, and find out from other students what you've been working on
Springboard session - how will you use this experience to take your next career step?

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring:

Your phone to scan the QR code for signing in.
A laptop so you can work on your project.
Headphones for online meetings with employers.
Anything you need to make yourself comfortable for a day of collaborative working.

Where will the internship take place?

For most of the week you'll be based with your group in a room in 38 Mappin Street or 9 Mappin Street.

Some other activities will take place in lecture theatres nearby - the Diamond or Stephenson Buildings.

Quiet spaces

38 Mappin Street

Workroom 1 on the Lower Ground floor of 38 Mappin Street is designated as a quiet space. Feel free to use this for quiet individual work during the week - please respect your fellow students in this room.

Prayer rooms

Wudu and prayer room facilities on the basement floor.

Diamond

Wudu facilities in the basement and on floor 1. Temporary prayer rooms on floor 1.

Social spaces

Heartspace Cafe

Feel free to use the Heartspace Cafe to socialise throughout the week.

9 Mappin Street

There's a co-working space on the ground floor of 9 Mappin Street that you can also use.

You can join a WhatsApp community for the week here - you won’t be able to post but we can use it to contact you as needed. There isn’t anything in there yet, so don’t worry that it’s quiet! You can’t join the ‘for staff only’ staff group within the community - this is just for staff.

Heartspace Cafe

The Heartspace Cafe is open throughout the week for hot and cold drinks and food. Sign up for the GeniUS loyalty app with your university email address (ending @sheffield.ac.uk) before the 7th April and you'll receive a 5% discount on food and drink in nearby campus venues for the duration of the internship week, including Heartspace Cafe and the Diamond Cafe. You also collect 5 points per £1 spent (meaning more savings in future!) There are water fountains available on every floor and a vending machine on the ground floor.

Smart casual, slightly smarter on the days you’ll meet your organisations (Monday and Friday.)

Where will I need to go?

Introductory talks are being held in the following buildings (your email will tell you which room to go to):

Diamond Lecture Theatre 1, The Diamond Building
Stephenson Lecture Theatre 1, Sir Henry Stephenson Building

After the introductory talk, you will need to go to the room that your project is based in. You can view this here - Project / Room list

I need to start late/finish early.

Full attendance is required for all participants on Monday 13 April.

Other than this, if you need to start late or leave early on any other day, you should let your team know and discuss it with them.

Will I need a laptop?

Yes, you will need a laptop to work on your project. We are unable to loan laptops for this internship scheme.

Do I need to do any extra work?

No. The internship scheme has been designed to be completed during the scheduled hours (10-4 each day.) You are not expected or asked to do extra work outside these hours.
