Varsity boxing and ice hockey

23 March 2018

Varsity 2018 resumed 21 March with ice hockey ones at the Fly DSA Arena. The match remains the most watched ice hockey event outside of North America and both teams were looking to score a crucial point in the Varsity tournament. The University of Sheffield team played a brilliant game, ending the first period 1–1. The Black and Gold spirit was in full force, and the Team Hallam crowd were on top form with their support. The game finished 6–3 to Sheffield Hallam University giving them the point for the evening.

The Varsity competition continued the day after with the boxing. The event saw the FIRST EVER women's boxing for Varsity and after an inspirational fight Alex Fraser won the point for the University of Sheffield #ThisGirlCan. Going into the final bout the score was equal leaving it all to play for, but ultimately won by Saul Holland winning the point of the evening for Team Hallam. Bringing the overall score of Varsity 2018 to 3–3. Every contestant fought well and we could not be more proud of the atmosphere, teamwork and fun created by the crowd.

Thank you to all competitors, spectators, volunteers and staff for another two great Varsity events. There are still tickets available for various Varsity events in April find out more on our tickets page.
