Danny Porter Foundation

16 April 2018

Every year we use Varsity as a platform to raise money for a chosen charity and aim to spread its awareness across the city. This year we have chosen to work alongside Sheffield Hallam University to support the Danny Porter Foundation. Dan Porter MBE was an inspirational individual, who championed sport at Hallam University, Sheffield and across the country.

For two decades, Dan was the driving force for the development of sport and physical activity at Sheffield Hallam. He was inspirational to all at Hallam and the University of Sheffield with everything he did, especially to rugby union who have held numerous charity events for the foundation over the past few years. Sadly, he recently passed away after a strong battle with numerous cancers. After his first diagnosis, Dan set up the Danny Porter Foundation raising over £250k for good causes. In 2016, he was honoured with an MBE for services to education and fundraising.

The Foundation provides donations and grants to other charities providing research, support, care and equipment to people suffering from cancer and/or requiring neurological surgery. It also exists to share Danny's experience to help others through their own experience with cancer. Foundation will help patients whose friends and family are struggling to provide the support they would like due to their personal circumstances.

Please be generous to this cause and show your support and respect at all the fixtures. There will be chances to donate money to this amazing cause at all fixtures, with merchandise and raffle tickets on sale. You can find a list of raffle prizes here. We aim to raise £2,500 across the week of events please help us to support the foundation.
