Here's a look at the behind the scenes of our first group trip to see a real size moth, and how to rig a sailing boat...
In the age where YouTube, AI, and all sorts of digital resources are freely available to learn how to design and build our own foiling moth, we thought...What better way to kickstart our journey, then by seizing the chance to see a full-sized foiling moth in person!
On a busy Monday afternoon, the team took to the roads to a town on the outskirts of Leeds, where we met with a super cool family of sailors, with backgrounds in engineering and manufacturing and were given the chance to ask any questions (over grandma's famous flapjacks) about the ins and outs of the features we need to consider for designing our own moth. Despite the cold night, we were even given a first-hand demonstration of how to rig a sailing boat- especially useful for our engineers without a sailing background!
Watching ....... talk us through the materials and processes used to make and mend the hull, benefits and practical drawbacks of each section of the boat, and areas of extra stress we need to consider in the design for our own version, we left with much to think about...over good tunes and a pit-stop to McDonalds on the journey home!
