This day focuses on the science side. Teams will be given prompts from which they will be conduct independent research to identify a problem. The teams will then devise ways to overcome this problem. This day will be supported by scientific talks by academics at the University.

Tuesday 7th November
This day focuses on the business side. We will start with a discussion about how to turn science ideas into businesses. The teams will then prepare their pitches which will describe the problem they identified, their proposed solution and their business case. These pitches will be judged by a panel of academics and industry partners.
From 9am - Arrive at Mappin Hall. Coffee is available.
9.20am - Presentation from Emerge focusing on how to convert ideas into viable business opportunities.
10am - Group work to finalise solution pitch
11am - Coffee Break
11.30am - Presentation from Dr Bernard Wenger from Helio Display Materials. This presentation will focus on Helio's journey from academic discoveries to becoming a business.
12pm - Group work
1pm- Lunch (provided)
2.30pm- Hackathon solutions pitched to judging panel comprising both academic and industry members
4.30pm- Winners announced and event wrap up
