Sheffield Archaeomaterials

Sheffield Archaeomaterials (SAM) is the archaeological materials, material culture, and experimental archaeology research group in the Department of Archaeology, the University of Sheffield. Run as a joint venture by the postgraduate community and staff, we have a vibrant, social, and international research group.

Our work also feeds directly into undergraduate modules and dedicated MSc Archaeological Science: Archaeomaterials program. Research is integral and woven into our taught courses and students are encouraged to work with us on research projects.

For staff, students, and alumni we offer seminars, reading groups, and socials throughout the year. We also undertake outreach opportunities for groups and schools; run short courses; and offer training for commercial units. Please see the links above for more information.
