Match review vs UCLan Rams

1 February 2017

After suffering numerous injuries and a tough loss against the UCLan Rams before Christmas, The Sabres were looking forward to implementing a modified offensive playbook for a chance to come away with a win despite a diminishing roster. The game took a disappointing start as the Sabres conceded a touchdown on just the third play of the game. But, efficient playbook execution by the offence saw the Sabres drive downfield, finishing their first possession with a decent punt putting the UCLan offence inside their own 10 yard line. Forcing three turnovers, the defence finished the half strong as the offence managed to convert a long drive of passing and running yards into a touchdown from a fumble recovery in the end zone. The two point conversion was successful and the Sabres went into halftime 8–7 up.

The second half posed more of a challenge as the offence struggled to convert scoring opportunities whilst UCLan converted their chances. Inefficiencies in the normally effective Sabres special teams meant that they suffered with poor field position throughout the game. After a strong start on both sides of the ball, mistakes allowed the game to escape the grasp of those in black and gold, with the final score reaching 26–8.
