My name is Ruth and I am an early career research fellow in Psychology at the University of Sheffield. My research focuses on how people coordinate conversation in everyday life. In particular, I study how children develop turn-taking skills during the primary school years and how adults with hearing loss manage conversational interaction.

I am interested in the processes that allow us to respond at the right moment in conversation and maintain shared understanding. My work combines experimental and real-world approaches to better understand how communication succeeds — and why it sometimes breaks down — with the aim of helping people stay socially connected.
