Advanced practitioners are health professionals who work in a range of clinical settings, including general practice surgeries.
Advanced practitioners come from a range of professional backgrounds, including:
nurses
physiotherapists
paramedics
pharmacists
All have undertaken extra training to assess, treat, and refer patients alongside GPs.
Research shows a lack of understanding among clinical staff and patients about the advanced practitioner role.
Supporting the healthcare workforce is a critical priority.
Advanced practitioners represent a particularly important part of the NHS workforce plan due to their clinical leadership, capacity to manage risk, and ability to undertake complex decision making.
